Engaging Customers using Social Media

Social media is no longer exclusive to the trendy restaurants in town. The tides have turned and the majority of businesses are now using social media. It is becoming increasingly difficult to stand out in this cluttered channel, and the key to being prominent is engaging your audience. This brings us to the 4th question from the 2013 Social Media Marketing Industry Report:

“What are the best ways to engage my audience with social media?”

From beginners to veterans of the hashtag world that we call social media, this round up will clear the confusion about the best ways to connect with your customers.

1. 10 Ways to Engage Your Audience on Social Media Today – Jessica Rogers, Maximize Social Business

Social Media really should be called Social Engagement. Media connotes a passive approach, but to really connect with your audience you have to have a conversation and add value. Mass media methods of advertising do not work with social engagement because they are not meant to engage your audience; they are only meant to sell. Follow Jessica’s top ten ways to engagement, and you will be on the track from social media towards social engagement.

2. Why You Stink at Twittering – Brooks Briz, Brooksbriz.com

Brooks, a restaurant operations manager from the new PDQ chain in the southeast, shares with us his top 5 tips on mastering Twitter. He puts to rest the many popular doubts of Twitter: “it is stupid, I don’t know what to say” and my favorite “I didn’t grow up with this stuff so I’ll never get it.” If you agree with any of those then you owe it to yourself to read this or watch his video blog. By following his tips, you will dramatically increase your following both online and in store.

3. Social media platforms help businesses engage customers – Jennifer Robison, Las Vegas Business Press

This article is for the small business owner who still shies away from the daunting words “SOCIAL MEDIA.” Many small business owners are worried about the time commitment or the risk of bad reviews, but other owners will tell you it is worth it.  Jennifer takes you through each stage of the social media setup process from establishing a presence to explaining promotions. With great examples from small businesses, Jennifer shows us how a few minutes a day is all it takes to connect with thousands of customers.

4. How to successfully engage with your audience on social media – Startups FM

For many startups, the first step in their business plan is reaching out to their audience in as many ways as possible—connecting through social channels is the perfect solution. With the correct mindset, social can help you get your startup off the ground. Focusing on building relationships instead of increasing sales and keeping an eye on the little things like spelling and grammar will help you drive positive engagement through social media.

  • The key to engaging your audience with social media is to just be out there and be available! You can’t be engaging if you never check in or update your accounts. Stay involved, keep your ear to the ground and look for opportunities to jump in the conversation.
